Computer Monitors - Using HDMI With Your Monitor

Computer Monitors - Using HDMI With Your Monitor

Hdmi

With the growing popularity of high-definition television, card manufacturers have quickly responded to the demand for HD by including dual DVI outputs to support more than one display. DVI stands for Digital Visual Interface It is recommended using a different cable to connecting your video card to the big screen, though, depends on what inputs your television can accept.

HDMI is really best for connecting a PC to an HDTV. DVI also supports the HDCP protocol necessary to view that kind of protected video content. DVI cable will give you a pure digital signal and a much sharper picture at higher resolutions. There's no need to bother with HDMI unless you're planning to watch Blu-ray movies.

HDMI is the newest and most technologically advanced way of connecting your monitor components. As long as you have an HDMI port, it will work just fine like any regular monitor. HDMI has the same pin out as DVI, plus audio, so it will work just the same as any regular digital display.

Using HDMI will give you the best quality by far. Select HDMI as the input source on the display, check the graphics card specifications to ensure it supports the display types and numbers which you connected. you get a better signal with a digital cable like HDMI than with VGA, which is analog.

If you have a HDTV, then you will be better off connecting using a VGA cable because It gives much better quality than S-Video and as with S-Video. You can also use scan converter box, which takes a VGA signal and converts it into S-Video or component video.

HDMI Extender - Extend HDMI Video and Audio to Long Distances Over CAT5 Cables

HDMI Extender - Extend HDMI Video and Audio to Long Distances Over CAT5 Cables

Hdmi

HDMI Extenders are used to extend signals over cables to remote devices placed at a distant location from the source. The transmission of signals could be done via cat5/cat6 cables. If the user has the need to transfer signals to longer distance then we need to have fiber optic cables for the purpose. As fiber optic cables have the capability to transmit signals to longer distances than cat5 cables, these cables come in handy when the clarity and the distance of devices matters the most.
HDMI Extenders making use of fiber optic cables for transmission purpose are known as hdmi fiber optic extenders. These extender types support resolution up to 1920X1200. Signal transmitted over fiber cables are resistant to Electromagnetic Interface. These Extenders make no loss of signals or degradation of signals. The plug and play functionality makes these video extenders very simple to use and can be operated by people with very less or no technical knowledge as no software installations are required for its working.
These Extenders are HDCP compliant and small in size, works fine with both cat5 cables as well as fiber optic cables. The difference lies in the fact that cat5 cables are less costly compared to latter ones. CAT5 cables are less bulkier and very useful in organizations that have limited budget. But if we require to transmit signals to longer distances with maximum video clarity fiber cables should be used. Though not to miss the cost factor, HDMI Extenders over fiber cables are usually costlier than the HDMI Extenders over CAT5 Cables. If you wish to extend HDMI signals to long distances without degradation, this extender is the perfect choice.

Xbox 360 Composite Or HDMI?

Xbox 360 Composite Or HDMI?

Hdmi

The Xbox 360 is one of the best sources for pure home entertainment. Easily keeping tens of millions of people entertained, the Xbox 360 has captivated the whole world with its great games, sounds and game play. However, it's not just the games, sounds or the game play that has most captivated and impressed the world. The Xbox 360's most impressive feature is the crystal clear, razor sharp graphics. Capable of reaching 1080p resolution (the highest definition available), Xbox 360 players are going to need to play on 1080p certified HDTVs to fully experience the Xbox 360 in all its glory.

Do you already have a 1080p HDTV? Many Xbox 360 players do, but most still struggle with the decision on whether to go with the HD composite cables or the HDMI cable. When it comes to getting the absolute best video quality, choosing the wrong cables will ever so slightly decrease your video quality. So which cables system results in the higher video quality? Well, before I answer that question, I want to briefly explain what the HDMI and HD composite cables are.

The HDMI Cable stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and it's a singular cable that incubuses all video and audio components. The HD composite cables (officially known as component video cables) are a bunch of cables, usually color coordinated, that transfers digital signals from the source to the television. Which is better to use? Personally, the HDMI cable is the better choice because there's less wiring you'll have to deal and the HDMI was specifically created to transfer very large, uncompressed streams of data without any problems.

The two reasons why I didn't choose the HD composite cable is because the HD composite cables weren't designed quite like the HDMI cable to handle large, uncompressed digital signals and the HD composite cables are too cumbersome. There are five individual connectors that you have to plug into your television; two are the audio connectors and three are the component video connectors. With so many connections that must be made, the HDMI cable with its single connection begins to look superior. But ultimately, it all comes down to the video quality. Which cable produces the better video quality? Honesty, there is little to no difference. If one is better than another, the HDMI would be the victor. But in the very end, either one will be more than enough to for you to enjoy your high definition gaming experience.

What You Should Know About an HDMI Splitter

What You Should Know About an HDMI Splitter

Hdmi

An HDMI splitter is able to send multimedia audio and video signals to multiple display devices. It does this by allowing two, or more, different High Definition Multimedia Interface output displays to share a single input source.

These splitters support many different types of HDMI devices such as a DVD player, video game consoles, computers with High Definition output, and satellite receiver boxes. When this device is used the signal is sent over a single cable with zero to little signal loss. The single cable also reduces clutter and saves quite a bit of space.

The devices are offered in 2, 4, or 8 port configurations and can be cascaded to accommodate even larger configurations of HDMI devices to be joined in a type of network. They are also available in matrix formats of 2 X 2 and 4X4 which are different combinations of a switch and a splitter to allow for remote access and control through TCP/IP or IR.

Installation of this device is relatively easy as it requires no software or device drivers to run. Thus it is simply plug and play as the saying goes. Its compact design is also a plus as it requires very little shelf space to sit on and can even be perched on top of your television if you have an inclination and the space to put it there.

Another reason that this device is so popular is its low power consumption. Thus you can update your home theater set up without using to much more power. A definite advantage when you consider the high cost of utilities nowadays. This allows you the freedom to enjoy your favorite form of entertainment without the worry that your electricity bill is going to wipe out your bank account.

Another key function of a splitter is to amplify and buffer HDMI input signals in such a way as to create two identical output signals simultaneously. Thus uncompressed streams of digital output are transmitted through the use of these devices.

The many applications that this kind of technology has been used for are interesting. For example in business it is being used in digital signage, classrooms, conference rooms, control rooms, shopping malls, information broadcasting, remote monitoring, and training facilities.

Because of its versatility in usage the HDMI splitter has become a very popular piece of technology. In fact it has been said that it dominates all other technology of this type in the field of audio and video entertainment. Thus if you are considering upgrading your home entertainment system then consider purchasing a splitter as a starting point.

HDMI vs Component Video

HDMI vs Component Video Video Clips.

Here is a comparison of HDMI and Component video. Both cables broadcast High Def but HDMI uses a digital signal while Component uses analog. More differences are explained in the video. A few basic things. Component video as you know is the red, blue, and green cable and it started to enter the home theater industry from around 2001 to 2002. Back then it was the common form of getting your HD signal but common HD signals today such as 720p or 1080p/i were not popular and did not penetrate the market since it was expensive to produce the chips. Instead you had 480p which is also coined as "Progressive Scan". This was common on almost all DVD players and few cable and dish receivers. Slowly 720p and 1080i penetrated the market and Component was able to support the bandwidth for those signals. This happened from around 2003-2005. It was not until late 2005 that sets started to have 1080p but they were quite expensive. Component theoretically supports 1080p and it has been proven and tested. However most tv sets do not support 1080p through Component maybe due to incompatible frequencies (I might be wrong, if anyone knows send me a message to correct this). HDMI then already developed 2003 but was not popular and it was until late 2005 that is started to appear on a lot of tv sets. HDMI supported all video resolutions and had the capacity to expand, it also supported audio as well and this was all transmitted to one cable that was thiner than component. Below I will lay out ...

How to Choose Which HDMI Cable is Best For Your Equipment

How to Choose Which HDMI Cable is Best For Your Equipment

Hdmi

We seem to live in a world of acronyms today and HDMI is just another one of them. When we are looking for the correct HDMI component we are, in fact, looking for a High Definition Multimedia Interface cable. It does not really sound as exciting when you put it that way though.

What it actually is in layman's language is an interface to transmit uncompressed digital data for audio and visual. It is one of the really new inventions as it only started in the 21st century. Since that time it has grown in popularity at an amazing rate. So much so that in January 2009 it had been installed as a base in 600 million HDMI devices.

There are, however, lots of different variations in their specification. The basic specifications are defined as 1.0 thru to 1.4. Whilst it is possible to use and connectors and cables, to get the optimum performance level you need to find out which are the correct ones for your particular device.

There are four connector types - Type A, Type B, Type C and Type D. They are not all the same size and one other major difference is the number of pins that each one has.

The HDMI cables do not have a maximum length assigned to them. In fact, their make up is much more important to the quality of sound and picture that they will give us. There are Category 1 cables which are the standard ones and Category 2 cables which are high speed cables. You will find the cables are named like HDMI cable 1.3 to reflect the different basic specifications they will operate for.

On any cable HDMI will support any TV or Video format and up to 8 channels of digital audio. HDMI is electrically compatible with Digital Visual Interface (DVI) signals so it is not necessary for signal conversion, there is also no loss of video quality when a DVI to HDMI cable and adapter is used.

HDMI has been introduced to the gaming community in a big way recently. When you connect an Xbox you will need an Xbox 360 HDMI cable for a PlayStation 3, a PlayStation 3 HDMI cable and for a PS3, you will need a ps3 HDMI cable.

The major supplier of HDMI cables is Monster and they are also manufactured by Belkin, Panasonic, Phillips and other leading television manufacturers.

You can now see some of the things that you need to consider in your quest to find the right cable.

The Changes In The New HDMI 1.3 Standard

The Changes In The New HDMI 1.3 Standard

Hdmi

Advancements in HD video are so fast that it can be somewhat dizzying. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) just recently became part of the mainstream HD A/V movement, but a new signal has already cropped up and is posed to replace the original HDMI specification. HDMI 1.3 was released in the summer of 2006 but has finally begun to take the place of HDMI.

Before one goes out and spends the farm on new HDMI 1.3 appliances, it is probably crucial to at least understand what the changes actually are, and if it's worth it. One of the biggest changes is the optional compliance to the new HD audio standards DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD. Original HDMI uses 7.1 surround sound audio for a slightly less real experience for true audio buffs. Another useful added feature is automatic audio/video sync, which ensures that the audio and video match up. I haven't had the problem yet where I felt like I needed this option.

Another feature which I'd like to perform a side-by-side analysis on is support of 30-bit, 36-bit, and 48-bit video with "Deep Color," essentially allowing for over billions of colors. The single link bandwidth is also increased to 10.2 Gbit/s on HDMI 1.3. Another feature that comes in handy for HD camcorder user is the availability of a mini-HDMI connector.

The main thing to keep in mind is that if you're going to get home theater equipment that is HDMI 1.3 compliant, you aren't going to be able to use those old HDMI cables and switches from your old set up. If you have multiple HDMI 1.3 sources and need to feed those to your display, you're going to need to get an HDMI 1.3 compliant switch. Same with the cables. So the choice is yours. You'll have to weigh the costs and benefits to decide.
